The Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Wyoming is hosting a letter writing campaign to Santa in order to raise funds for Make-A-Wish this Friday, Dec. 8.

The event, dubbed ‘Believing at 7220’ is part of a national campaign. The goal is to collect over 60,000 letters written to Santa, which will be delivered to Macy’s for the company’s tenth annual 'Believe' campaign. For every letter received by Macy’s, the company will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1 million.

This will be the fourth year Chi Omega has held the event. Morgan O’Connor, director of community service for Chi Omega, said letter writing campaign has had a great turnout in past years and the sorority hopes to repeat that success.

“Last year we actually had quite a big turnout,” O’Connor said. “We had students from the other fraternity and sorority life organizations, the sports teams and people just from the community. Last year we wrote 60,800 letters, so I’d say that’s a decent turnout.”

O’Connor said the sorority hopes to go above and beyond what was collected last year. She says they aspire to collect 72,000 letters this Friday.

O’Connor said she thinks the fundraiser is an easy way to get people involved.

“We are not asking for any monetary donation, we are not asking for people to go out of their way and coming around the holiday time,” O’Connor said. “All we’re asking is for them to take five seconds to channel their inner child and write a letter to Santa. It’s a really simple way to get people involved and it really kind of brings a light to finals and the stress of that and everything that goes on this time of year.”

Believing at 7220 will be held this Friday form 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Chi Omega Sorority located at 1630 E. Sorority Row in Laramie. There will be pictures with Santa and hot chocolate for letter-writers.

Letters can also be mailed to the sorority from now until Dec. 8 at Chi Omega Sorority, 1630 E. Sorority Row, Laramie, WY.
