Ebola may have dropped off the nation's worry list, but Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is making sure it's ready should their be an outbreak.

The hospital partnered with local emergency medical services and other health partners Friday morning to treat a "mock" patient under investigation for Ebola.

"We want to make sure that our staff get the opportunity, like we're doing today, to exercise and make sure that they keep their skills honed," said Candis Pickard, CRMC's Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.

As an Ebola assessment center, CRMC is required to do an exercise like this at least once a year.

Pickard says while it's unlikely anyone in the community would contract the disease, it's the hospital's obligation to be prepared.

"We need to be ready for the next infectious disease," said Pickard.

"The personal protective equipment donning and doffing requirements and the training to keep our staff safe are the highest that we've exercised," added Pickard. "So if we're ready for Ebola, we're going to be ready for anything."
