A 24-year-old Cheyenne man could face up to five years in prison after allegedly slapping the mother of one of his children across the face.

According to an affidavit, Nikko Johnson got into an argument with his live-in girlfriend on Dec. 5 and reportedly slapped her so hard he knocked her to the ground.

When the two left the house to pick up the woman's children, Johnson reportedly grabbed the wheel and tried to cause the woman to wreck. The woman then called police and Johnson reportedly jumped out of the car and took off.

Johnson was arrested on Dec. 16 after a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy reportedly found a small baggie of methamphetamine on him. He was served a felony warrant for third-offense domestic battery on Dec. 29.

Court records indicate Johnson was convicted of domestic battery in Dec. 2014 and March 2016.

During his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Johnson asked Judge Thomas Lee to appoint him an attorney in the domestic battery case and, despite Lee's advice to keep the cases together, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine.

Lee sentenced Johnson to 26 days for the drug charge and set his preliminary hearing for Jan. 11 at 9:30 a.m.
