Lightning ignited a new wildfire in Carbon County earlier this week.

The Broadway Fire has burned 37 acres since it was first reported on Sunday. It's located about 10 miles south of Encampment; roughly two miles north of the Wyoming/Colorado state line, five miles west of Blackhall Mountain, and five miles east of Hog Park Reservoir.

The fire is burning in a mix of live and dead lodgepole pine trees. Activity so far includes moderate smoldering, creeping and torching.

Originally managed by the U.S. Forest Service, the fire is now under the purview of the Beaver Creek Fire management team. Fire managers are using aircraft to evaluate and slow the spread of the fire.

This fire will have to be fought from the air. Thick timber in the area will prevent ground crews from reaching the blaze.
