Rich Wilson Resigns As Laramie Rangers Manager

After just three seasons at the helm, Rich Wilson had decided to resign as the manager of the Laramie American Legion Baseball program.

"There's a lot of changes going on with the program, and it just won't fit my style of coaching."

That is what Rich Wilson said in a phone interview with KOWB, as to the reason for his resignation.

With Wilson stepping aside, the Laramie Rangers will now search for their sixth manager in the last decade.

As for his time at the helm, he said, "It was enjoyable being with the players and getting to know players."

The Rangers won their first state title in 27 years during the 2013 season under Wilson's guidance. They finished 36-19-1 that season, which included a win at the 'A' Northwest Regional tournament in Wheatland.

Wilson said, "In my opinion, we were at a level, competing at a level where we should be. Laramie has great athletes; it's just a matter of puttin' 'em all together or having them all together at the right time, in the right situation, and we were able to do that."

In his three seasons, Wilson compiled a 93-52-1 overall record. That mark equates to a winning percentage of .637. The one tie came during a pool play game at a tournament that had a time limit.

Wilson added that he leaves with no regrets.

"It was enjoyable having that opportunity; being able to help in the building process of the legion program and heading it in the direction that I was hoping it would go. Unfortunately, I don't feel like it's going that way, so I'm just going to step aside."

A search for a new coach will begin immediately.
