Drought conditions in Wyoming mean that rivers are running a little lower these days, so the 8th Annual Big Laramie Duck Race will be at Huck Finn Pond in LaPrele Park this year. A 12-horsepower generator is going to be used to make a stream for the rubber ducks to race down, with the winner getting a prize of $1,000.

The Laramie Rotary Club sponsored event will take place on Saturday, September 8th with a free pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. and ducks going in the water at 10 a.m. To take part in the event, simply purchase a ticket which has a number that corresponds to a rubber duck which will be placed in the pond. Tickets are $10 each, or you can purchase three for $25 from any Rotarian or the Laramie Boomerang office.

The first duck to finish the race will win its ticket holder a prize of $1,000. The second place prize is $500 and the third place prize is $300. You do not have to be present to win. Proceeds of the race will go to charities supported by the Laramie Rotary Club. Local beneficiaries include the Downtown Clinic, Coats for Kids, needy families at Christmas, and UW and LCCC Scholarships. On the international level, Rotary donates money to provide clean water in Guatemala, shelter for disaster relief and the eradication of polio.
