With a budget exceeding $1 million, the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming is a student government organization with some legitimate power. As the official student government of the University of Wyoming, ASUW executives and committees oversee a number of student organizations and maintain a significant impact on many aspects of the daily lives of UW students.

This overview of ASUW is important to note, because for three days last week, the yearly ASUW elections were held online, and the individuals in control of this million dollar budget have now been announced.

Presiding over ASUW for the next year will be Joel Defebaugh, a junior from Casper majoring in Political Science. Defebaugh's vice president will be Brett Kahler, a Communication major who is also a junior from Casper.

In their yearly elections, ASUW gathers representatives from each college as well including 3 each from the College of Agriculture, Business and Education, 4 from the College of Health Sciences, 5 from the College of Engineering and 11 from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Of the 9,175 eligible voters, only 1,970 voted, just over 20 percent. The president/vice-president team of Defebaugh and Kahler received 1,093 votes, 881 more votes than the second leading candidates.
