Your Question:

Have any routes further south been considered for the Clark Street Bridge replacement? Possibly south of Grand Avenue. The blue route would not seem to make sense as it would be only a couple of blocks from Curtis Street which already crosses the river and provides several access options to West Laramie.

My opinion is that a route further south between I-80 and Curtis Street would make sense. Constructing any new route too close to either I-80 or Curtis Street seems to defeat the purpose of a 3rd timely access across the Laramie River to West Laramie. Of the three options provided the yellow options makes most sense but still is not that far away from Curtis Street which would offer a higher speed limit and already offers access to West Laramie via McQ St, I-80 and Pierce St. I'm not sure much is being gained by any of the propsed routes.

The City's Response:

Harney Street east of the railroad is a dedicated collector street designed to handle the volume of traffic on the viaduct.  The roadway design is such that it will carry the traffic east to 9th  Street, 15th  Street, 22nd  Street, & 30th  Street. The location of the viaduct on the west side is important, however, the connectivity to the east offered by Harney Street has to be considered in the final decision.  Harney Street, Grand Avenue, and Reynolds Street are the only streets that currently can provide that connectivity.  Grand Avenue is already overloaded with vehicles, Reynolds Street ties with Curtis Street, therefore Harney Street becomes the best choice.

The City is in contact with the Wyoming Department of Transportation  to gather additional information and will post more when it is received. You can follow all of the news on the replacement for the Clark Street Bridge HERE.
