We have received several questions regarding the chip sealing project on Spring Creek, Sheridan, and 9th Street.  We consolidated all of the questions into one post...

The Question:

When will the excess gravel be removed and the pavement striping reapplied on the roads recently chip sealed? The situation is very dangerous for people bicycling due to lack of bike lanes and large piles of gravel in the bike lane area.

The Answer:

“Sweeping should be done this week or early next week. Then a seal coat will be applied and the City will stripe the streets. All work should be complete in next fifteen working days.”

The Question:

What is the point of the gravel on Springcreek and other streets?

The Answer:

“The chip sealing and micro-surfacing work the city does each summer repairs damage, provides a skid-resistant surface, and saves money by preventing water from getting into the pavement through cracks and potholes. This extends the life of the roadway by five to seven years.”

The Question:

What is the forecast for completing the chip seal project? Many of the most busy roads such as Spring Creek, Sheridan, 9th have unfinished chip seal with no painted lines and hazardous biking conditions.

The Answer:

“Sweeping should be done this week or early next week. Then a seal coat will be applied and the City will stripe the streets. All work should be complete in next fifteen working days.”
