Just over eleven years ago, eight University of Wyoming cross country student athletes were killed in a collision with a drunk driver. The annual “Always A Cowboy” 8k run and 5k walk will honor their memory on Saturday, September 22 in Laramie.

The race will start at 9 a.m. from Undine Park. Race day registration will be available beginning at 7 a.m. for $25. Pre-registration before Sept. 19 is $20. The registration form can be downloaded from UW’s cross country page.

The race is a collaboration between the University of Wyoming cross country and track programs and Premiere Bone & Joint Center. All proceeds are donated to the UW cross country and track and field programs.

First year University of Wyoming cross country coach Brian Berryhill said this event is very special to him as he competed against many of the young men who died while he was a student athlete at Colorado State University.

“This is something I follow every year,” said Coach Berryhill. “This is something that’s near and dear to my heart and I’m truly honored to be a part of it and actually get to help this year.”
