A Look Back at the Biggest Game in Wyoming Football History [Video]

This weekend, the Wyoming Cowboys will play for their first conference championship since 1993.

Needless to say, Pokes fans have waited a long time for this game.

Regardless of the outcome, however, it won't be the most biggest game in Wyoming football history. That game took place on January 1, 1968.

After finishing the 1967 season with a 10-0 record, the Pokes were ranked 5th nationally and earned a birth in the Sugar Bowl.

Coming into the game, Wyoming was the only undefeated team in the country and had a legitimate chance to claim a share of the national championship.

But first, the Cowboys had to overcome Louisiana State. Making the task even tougher, the game was held in New Orleans, just over an hour from the LSU campus.

Wyoming dominated the first half, jumping out to a 13-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Tigers rallied in the second half for a 20-13 comeback win.

The Pokes finished the season ranked 6th in the AP Poll and 5th in the Coaches Poll. Wyoming hasn't appeared in a New Year's Day bowl game since.
